Why do I like the Wizard of Oz so much???

I don’t know, maybe because when I first saw I didn’t get to see the ending for the longest time. Either I had to go to bed or one of my parents wanted to watch something else. Then the day came when I couold FINALLY see the whole thing. I really enjoyed it. The characters seemed to care about Dorothy and all she wanted to do was get home. While she wanted to get home she made friends with the people of Oz. She wanted to help one get a brain, another one get a heart, and help the cowardly lion be brave.

And then color TV came out. We eventually got a color TV. Then I could see all of the Wizard of Oz in color. Remember the horse of a different color? That horse kept changing colors.

I guess the reason I like the movie so much is I grew up with that movie.

Remember the end, when the scarecrow cornholes the cowardly lion? They just don't make movies like that anymore.

cornholes?

I learned it wouldn't be good for a witch to take a bath. What a world, what a world...

actually, my old aunt (blessed her soul) used to say: "carmen , do not wash yourself so often, you'll lose all your antibodies "...
useless to say i had 3 showers a week! lol lol

Little Lamb said...

Kid, I never heard that.

Carmen, we need to keep clean.

I remember how magical it was to see Munchkinland in color after the black and white.

I always had my escape route (to the bathroom and tub and water to vanquish her) planned in case the witch ever came looking for me.

carmen racovitza said...

yes, LL, now i take TWO showers a week...lol

i heard you wash EVERY DAY!!!!!even twice a day...you are cleanliness freaks!

(joking)

Little Lamb said...

jali that sounds like such a good idea! I wish I had thought of that. But now we know water melts the witch.

Carmen, I am by no means a neat freak.

Hi Little Lamb! The Wizard of Oz is a fine film. I also love it. In a sense, it's one of the most Zen movies ever. The main thesis is that we can go searching and searching for that paradise at the other end of the rainbow ... only to discover that we've been there the entire time. :)

Little Lamb said...

Hi Dan! I never knew that.

hunk as future scarestraw...

Hunk: Now look it, Dorothy. You ain't usin' your head about Miss Gulch. Think you didn't have any brains at all!
Dorothy: I have so got brains.
Hunk: Well, why don't you use 'em? When you come home, don't go by Miss Gulch's place. Then Toto won't get in her garden, and you won't get in no trouble, see?
Dorothy: Oh, Hunk. You just won't listen, that's all.
Hunk: Well, your head ain't made of straw, you know.

Little Lamb said...

Exactly. I'm sure they all did stuff like that before the the dream.

I think it is an allegory of the corporate world. Especially the cornholing.

I think in those days a cigar was just a cigar and the movie was just a fun thing to watch. Even better good wins over evil, that line has really become blurred now a days.

Little Lamb said...

Yes, it has, Kid

Anonymous said...

yes, phos...
-cigar cases- so problematic, off the hinges sometimes..
-cigar lighters- no longer reliable
-cigar humidors- bad quality
so

cigars themselves turned pro

(KANONYMOUS)

The Phosgene Kid said...

Cigars, well yes, but you'd never catch the strawman smoking, well, except for that scene near the end where the Witch torches him.

carmen racovitza said...

well, phos, sometimes i have the strange , but irresistible feeling you make up things...

True Kid. Wicked Witch!

The Phosgene Kid said...

I dunno. You tell me.

Little Lamb said...

"Take me home to Aunt Em!"

"Instantly she was whirling through the air, so swiftly that all she could see or feel was the wind whistling past her ears.

The Silver Shoes took but three steps, and then she stopped so suddenly that she rolled over upon the grass several times before she knew where she was.

At length, however, she sat up and looked about her.

"Good gracious!" she cried.

For she was sitting on the broad Kansas prairie, and just before her was the new farmhouse Uncle Henry built after the cyclone had carried away the old one. Uncle Henry was milking the cows in the barnyard, and Toto had jumped out of her arms and was running toward the barn, barking furiously.

Dorothy stood up and found she was in her stocking-feet. For the Silver Shoes had fallen off in her flight through the air, and were lost forever in the desert."

"Take me home to Aunt Bea," cried Opie, "but keep creepy Uncle Festus away."
