Wizard of Oz Review...

I asked - puerileuwaite - (pictured) what I should do for my next post. He helped me with the last two posts. This post will make it three. Actually he told me what he likes to read when he comes here. I want to make my readers happy so they'll come back. Puerileuwaite a.k.a. Puggy or Pug, suggested I do a movie review of my favorite movie. I have 2 favorite ones. You can see which ones in my profile. And right here.

The Wizard of Oz

The first couple of times I didn't get to see the ending. Someone wanted to watch somehing else, if I remember correctly or I had to go to bed or something like that.

This movie was an adventurous movie for me. Dorothy wanted to run away from home. An old lady accused Dorothy's dog (Toto) of biting her and she took the dog away. Dorothy was very upset by this. A hurricane was coming so everybody had to get everything in its place and then go hide till it was over. Dorothy was running around in the house trying to get everythimg in order. Toto returned. He ran away from that bad lady. Dorothy was glad to see Toto. She was running around with the dog and all of a sudden she was knocked out. She came to in the land of Oz and ended up killing a witch. This witch was another witch's sister. The Wicked witch was after Dorothy and her little dog too. Dorothy met up with the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Cowardly Lion. They ended up being instant friends. They were off to see the wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz. I won't tell you what happened in case you haven't seen the movie. And who hasn't?

Maybe I should save my other reviews for another post.

Thanks Pug, for the suggestion.

you're not
in kansas any more, LL

please be sure to send me a message when you review my three favorites: behind the green door, debbie does dallas, & deep throat -- thanks!

/t.

S'okay /t. I won't be reviewing those movies. I'll leave that to you to review on your own.

A hurricane? Well then, we DEFINITELY aren't in Kansas anymore! (Actually it was a tornado)

This was a cute synopsis, Lamby, but what I really want to know is WHY this movie is one of your favorites.

Why it is my favorite? Hmmm. I'll get back to you on that.

Did you see the part in the movie where an extra hangs himself?

Look it up in "Snopes".

Little Lamb said...

Carmen, I don't know.

Rain, I heard about that.

and those ridiculous shoes on judy's equally ridiculous feet...

i liked the axe !!!

Little Lamb said...

I liked the witch melting.

puerileuwaite said...

I never heard of an extra hanging himself (at least, by definition, he was optional). I'm off to Snopes to look it up! Thanks.

I just went there myself and they said it never happened.

one of my fav movies to LL. how different this movie would have been if shirley temple had played dorothy (as originally planned) instead of judy garland. judy was perfect. much stronger voice and presence.

as a child, i was so horrified by the flying monkeys - they were incredibly scary! and so was that long hall the lion, scarecrow, tinman, and dorothy had to walk down to get to the wizard's throne room. oh dear!

but i always loved the message - you have what you need - sometimes you just don't know it. sometimes you don't recognize your own strengths until others reflect them back to you.

but you still gotta watch out for men behind curtains.

I always thought Dorothy was hot. There's a book "Son of a Witch" that takes you back to Oz and not all is well. Turns out the wicked witch may have actually been a force for good and Dorothy was wrong to have snuffed her.

I just like coming to your Blog because I like you. No need to anything special on my account...

altho young , judy looked old ...her face lacked innocence
her face was expressionless

i like the old shirley temple and her childlike dimples...

the idea of a tinman who is not allowed to weep because he may turn rusty is wonderful...this is tragedy...
and , i think, all the other characters live on the far end of despair...they live on a threshold clumsily questioning identity (?)

Little Lamb said...

Bird I always enjoyed the movie especially after I could see the whole thing and what happened. I enjoy hearing everything about it even how it came to be. How Buddy Ebsen was supposed to play the tinman but couldn't because of inhaling the paint he had to wear. Burt Lahr was sweated in his costume. It was extremely hot for him.

Kid, you are so sweet. Please continue to come as often as you want.

i like the cowardly lion...

Little Lamb said...

Me too.

Oh, oh, oheeo, oh, oh, oheeo - The witch's guard had great uniforms, and who didn't love the flying monkeys!! Just keep your mouth closed when you look up!!

I liked the part where Dorothy was locked up by the witch and the Scarecrow, Tinman and Cowardly Lion were trying to save her. The Scarecrow had no brain, but yet, he kept coming up with ideas to save her.

carmen racovitza said...

all scarecrows are clever...

because crows are veery clever.
conclusion: a scarecrow is clever.

Little Lamb said...

The scarecrow in this movie had some good ideas for not having a brain.

The tinman cared for Dorothy even though he didn't have a heart.

I love the comments and insights! (Seriously)

For this post or all post?

Lamby, I see your entire body of work as a handbook for living. But - to me - a good post continues to take on a life of its own in the comments. I love the things that have been said (by Bird and Carmen, in particular).

I'm still looking for you, Lamby, to go into greater detail as to WHY this movie strikes a chord with you.

Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that - through you guys - I'm seeing things that I hadn't seen before about this movie. And for me, that's what a well-done homage is mostly about.

Get me ... all serious.

Little Lamb said...

Ok either I'll do an update or another post about it. Which do you think I should do?

Scary Monster said...

Hello little lamb. Me be the Scary Monster and me is be visiting for the first time here in this place. Me loves the wizard of Oz. There be so many things about the film that thrilled me as a tadpole and still do today. Lions that danced and were brave, even without a heart. Scarecrows that showed more smarts than most people have and the tinman I just liked him 'cause he had a funnel on his head. The thing me liked most was that all these people were real and already in Dorothy's life. But me thinks that Toto was responsible for turning the road yellow, Me is certain that there be many scenes where the pup were doing his duty all over the place.
