Who knew?

I got this in my email...

My nephew sent this to me and I sure did not know it. I never read the ends of the box. Duh!!

Bet you'll go to your kitchen to check this one out. I did. I had to go into the kitchen and check this out for myself. Who ever looks at the end of your aluminum foil box? What a fantastic idea. Now, if someone would just make plastic wrap that didn't stick to itself.

I've been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember. Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know, like when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time (like when you're using it. LOL)

Written on the end of the box it said, Press here to lock end?. Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can't count the number of times the Saran warp roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover something up. I'm sharing this with my friends that did not know this.
"I checked with Reynolds wrap and they said the tabs on the end of the box started in 1996."
If you all ready know this, delete this message and don't e-mail me and make me feel dumber than I already feel. If you didn't know this, e-mail me and let me know so I won't feel so dumb. I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this.

this is
good news!

now if they would
just create a genetically
modified food that grows already wrapped in foil, then we could dispense altogether with those pesky boxes and tabs!

thanks, LL

That would be a neat invention.

i was
thinking...

lamb chops

BAD IDEA!!!!

i don't know if i would want individual lamb chops growing on their own in tin foil. sounds kind of creepy.

but anywho, err... i didn't know this information either. my tinfoil/saran wrap boxes and rolls lead completely seperate lives in my kitchen drawer.

i'd go check, but am presently busy drinking an amazingly smooth whiskey..

My aluminum foil say to press here to lock end on both sides. My saran wrap does not. My wax paper doesn't either.

I never noticed that at all. I'm not sure what would happen if I locked it. Would I be able to unlock it and get at my foil quickly enough to get it on my head during full moons?:)

Little Lamb said...

Hmmm, I don't know. I'm sure you'd want it to stay locked so it would stop falling out of the box.

Try it and see.

Skunkfeathers said...

Yes, I noticed it; no, you're not dumb. You're only dumb if you get anywhere near /t. when he has aluminum foil and a grill...

Little Lamb said...

This is very true.

I don't get it. I thought they were supposed to jump out'a the box like that. Made it easier to measure it against the pan you were cooking with.

Course, not me. Since the oven quit, we use the stove top (no foil needed here, folks) or the microwave, and I'm thinking that foil and microwaves are pretty much like lambs and stoves.
Not a good match.

BBQs?
Gee, I didn't think of that....

Hmmmm.

No Lil Lamb I've never noticed, thanks for that info.I will have to go check as I get so annoyed when the foil falls out, unravels then by the time you have finished trying to roll it back into the box its all scrunched & wont fit. Might as well throw it out unless serena joy wants it.
One good thing about foil, you can hear it coming if /t. is trying to sneak up on you & wrap you ready for your marinade & BBQ. :)

Corn Dog said...

NEVER noticed it AND don't really use the wrappy stuff because that would mean...well..cooking.

dianne said...

Had a look LL, nothing so inventive & practical on any of the cling wrap or foil boxes here, but that doesn't surprise me. In the US since 1996 you say, gosh we are really behind the times here in Oz.Wake up Australian manufacturers!

I jumped up and checked as soon as I read your posting.

Cut-rite didn't have it.

Thanks for the tip. You can teach an old dog new tricks.

Little Lamb said...

Boney, No, aluminum foil and the microwave don't go together AT ALL.

Dianne, I thought it was all over the world. I don't trust /t. with him always wanting to bbq the lambs.

Corn Dog, I never noticed it, either, until getting the email

Jack, I checked it out right after reading it too.

They should come up with something similar for toilet paper. That way I wouldn't have to suspend it in a tree.

Little Lamb said...

They should.

A tin foil hat is a piece of headgear made from one or more sheets of tin foil, aluminium foil or similar material.... In theory, people wear the hats in the belief that they act to shield the brain from such influences as electromagnetic fields, or against alien interference, mind control and mind reading.

The idea of wearing a tin foil hat for protection from such threats has become a popular stereotype and term of derision.... The phrase serves as a byword for paranoia and is often used to characterize conspiracy theorists...

how about those reynold's wrap suits and hats?
I hear they have a good line of sox and shoes made out of tin foil, too.
Wait.
Did I say "tin foil?"

My goodness how fun it is to grow old.
I might as well say "take the horse and buggy to town tonight."

They haven't made tin foil sincwe sometime in the early fifties. Wasn't it the advances in aluminum 'quilting' processes that put tin on notice?
(the picture was perfect....a lil ol lady sitting in her rocking chair, tweedling her knitting needles at some unknown thing, then suddenly sit back and spread out a sheet of diamond pressed aluminum foil....
"so strong it would hold an elephant!" and then they'de show an elephant cartoon standing on a sheet of quilted foil, and the elephant would smile real big at the camera (the camera?) and then raise its trunk and bellow....

Little Lamb said...

To me, tin foil and aluminum foil are one and the same.

boneman said...

I think there is a certain taint to the flavor of foods when the two are compared to each other.
There is a metallic flavor left behind the tin.

Roasting bell peppers on a bbq grill would show you the difference, ....
well, except for one lil thing....

finding some tin foil.

well, LL,
technically,
tin is tin while
aluminum is not tin

apples and oranges, really

hey, i hope your VACATION is going well and is very relaxing for you!!!

Boney, I love green peppers stuffed.

/t. all is well on the vacation front, except for one thing. It's almost over. :-( It's nice to get away from the drudgery of work.

Ruela, interesting thought. I hope you don't mean cooked.

Ruela said...

you live close to Cape Canaveral?

Little Lamb said...

Not close, no, but in the same state.

diana said...

i did it! i did it! no more aluminum foil falling outtadabox!

Little Lamb said...

Very good. Now don't you feel better? No more aluminum foil falling out of the box.

I didn't know.

Little Lamb said...

I didn't either, before this email.

In July 1877, while developing his telephone transmitter, Edison conceived the idea of recording and playing back telephone messages.
After experimenting with a telephone "diaphragm having an embossing point & held against paraffin paper moving rapidly," he found that the sound "vibrations are indented nicely"
and concluded "there's no doubt that I shall be able to store up & reproduce automatically at any future time the human voice perfectly."
Edison periodically returned to this idea, and by the end of November, he had developed a basic design.
The first phonograph consisted of grooved cylinder mounted on a long shaft with a screw pitch of ten threads per inch and turned by a hand crank.
Instead of paraffined paper, Edison used a piece of tin foil wrapped around the cylinder as a recording surface...

conclusion: we may record songs on tinfoil !!! :);)

Good. Now he can cook you thinking it's a lamb.

carmen racovitza said...

yes, /t, i wear a tinfoil hat all the time...even at night

they call me tinny f(o)illy at home...;)

Good one Lil Lamb! Let /t. cook someone else. :)
