More Vultures...

Ok, ok, I haven't posted in a while. I just never know what to post about. I will post when I can think of something. I thought of something. I have more pictures of vultures.

These vultures are protected by law. It is illegal to kill them. You have to get permission to kill them. One day, on the way home from work I saw one of those vultures in the middle of the street. I went over to take a closer look. I took pictures of what I found.

From what I've read about vultures, it's very hard to scare them. That makes me think, maybe I can make friends with one. That may not be a good idea because these birds are wild.

befriend

you should visit wall street

i hear there's plenty of 'em there, LL, and they got no friends at all :)

well, if you befriend one, here are some tried and true vulture names ..

Flaps, Dizzie, Ziggy and Buzzie ..

Little Lamb said...

/t. Do they have feathers like a real vulture?

Foamy, I like those names. I'll have to see which one my vulture likes.

Ruela said...

I love vultures
but not wall street ones ;)

Ruela said...

where is your avatar!?

boneman said...

Vultures always make me think the same thing....
What's dead here?

Friends with a vulture?
I don't think that's legal....
Here's how you do it, anyway....
Throw away meat.
Toss it in your backyard or somewhere where you can get together with these feathered meat eaters (?) and...what? Not pet them, I hope.

Just feed and take pictures?
Like, perhaps you should get someone to go along with you.
Take movie pictures....

("ouch! OW! Stop biting my hand!"

Don't kick at him. give him the chicken....

"Heck you say! He's biting me! OW!"

Oh Lil Lamb....don't be such a weenie! Give him some of your hamburger....

"Hamburg...OW! I'll kick you into the next county you...you....you VULTURE!"

What? He didn't like the hamburger? Why are you staring at me like that? uh-oh....

"Where you going, boneman!? Let's get some pictures of you feeding the vultures...
...oh booooneman....")

dianne said...

Lol at /t., yes we have some of those kind here too. ♥

Lil Lambie dear I'm not sure about befriending a vulture, I hear that they can be quite vicious and might peck you, so be careful.
I think I would find a nicer bird for a friend like sparrow or a seagull. ♥

boneman said...

....er...maybe not.

dianne said...

Look Boney we commented at the same time but you got in ahead of me.
Lol at what you said, that would be quite a scene and well worth filming. ♥
If I was Lil Lambie I wouldn't encourage them by feeding them nor try to pet them. ♥

Little Lamb said...

ruela, I know what you mean. I have my avatar on here.

Boney, maybe not. I might scare them and then they'll throw up and make a mess.

Dianne, Now there's an idea.

alas, LL,
wall street vultures
do not have feathers like vultures,
but they are reputed to have fine feathered nests and absolutely no common sense at all :)

Little Lamb said...

Featherless vultures? I don't think I want to meet bald vultures.

ANNA-LYS said...

Vultures .... isn't that the big bird Americans has as a symbol?

Little Lamb said...

No, our bird is the eagle.

Ruela said...

I can't see it, don't know why, I see the others.

no image.

Little Lamb said...

I don't know why either. Does that mean I'm a vampire lamb?!!?!

dianne said...

No you're not a vampire lamb, I think Ruela is playing games with you Lil Lambie. ♥

Bald vultures, now that would be an ugly sight, they're fairly ugly with feathers. ♥

I hope you find a nice friendly bird to pet. ♥

Little Lamb said...

Thank you, Dianne. Smaller birds are more skittish than vultures. But we shall see what happens.

i wonder
what eats
dead vultures

When you said you had pictures of vultures, I was expecting photos of Congresspersons of dubious antecedence and worse ideology to load...YOU meant da BOID kind.

/t. won't offer to BBQ those...

Little Lamb said...

/t. I wonder, too. Live vultures are supposedly afraid of dead ones. I don't know how true that is.

Skunky, Yes Skunky, the boid kind, complete with feathers. I think /t. would offer to bbq anything.

darkfoam said...

ravens eat dead vultures ..
and hyenas ..
etc..

Anonymous said...

i won't
bbq the skunk

/t.

Little Lamb said...

Foamy, so ravens eat vultures. So that means they're scavengers too!

/t. Oh why not? He might taste best of all.

boneman said...

vultures eat carrion.
So, don't lose your luggage when traveling.
Then again, it probably wouldn't do well to sleep too heavily at a vulture 'sleepover' if you know what I mean....
Then again, carrion is carrion.
Parts is parts.
I would think that vultures, like canines in the wild, DO eat their own kind when they die.

On the other hand, Eagles are also from the same class of birds as vultures. And, eagles will eat carrion (another good reason to not lose your luggage, y'all)

In a way this could be useful.
I mean if you were really really hungry, you could always pull off a couple of feathers to snack on till you found some dead food laying around...

Little Lamb said...

Vultures are supposed to be afraid of dead vultures. That is supposedly one way to scare them off, but it doesn't work all the time.

Dad told me someone he knew got permission to kill a vulture to get rid of the vultures that were always visiting this person's property and hang out that dead vulture to scare the other vultures away. It didn't work.

The article on vultures that I have says dead vultures are supposed to scare live vultures away. It also states if you scare a vulture they vomit and it can get quite messy they poop all over your property or something like that.

Ruela said...

no image, only a red x

you are a ghost ;)

Skunkfeathers said...

/t., a BBQed skunk is demonstrated on any summer-sunned highway. It's not even appealing to vultures ;)

Little Lamb said...

Ruela, BOO!

Skunky, You do have a point.

dianne said...

Yuk, live or dead vultures seem disgusting with their vomiting and pooping.
I think if you hung out a dead vulture the live ones would eat it and then most likely throw up. Yuk.
Find a raven to get rid of the vultures, that might solve your problem. ♥

Little Lamb said...

Good idea.

I don't have a vulture problem and I'm glad. Birds here fascinate me.

dianne said...

Just don't try to pet them Lil Lamb, they peck, OK.

I love birds too they are fascinating creatures but if Mr & Mrs Vulture start breeding you very well may have a vulture problem. ♥

Little Lamb said...

This could be true. Sometimes they hang out by where I live.

The Phosgene Kid said...

Is the car dead? Don't know why anyone would kill a buzzard, they taste awful, not like a plump juicy grilled lamb!!

Little Lamb said...

To my knowledge the car is in working order.

You would kill the buzzard to scare other buzzards away.

I don't know how they taste.

boneman said...

I'm not sure that there are any buzzards in the `States.
Well, except for those we have imprisoned in zoos.

I find that, at this later point of life, that I don't care for zoos at all. Just organized prison yards that charge money to see the inhabitants.

Other notable points, while vulturwes have an extremely sensitive sniffer (Richard Attenborough put a chicken thigh in the middle of a forest under a bunch of leaves and slipped away. Not fifteen minutes later, a vulture landed within ten feet of it, and shuffled around the leaves till it found the meat. Wow.) Anyway, despite that sensitivity, it doesn't have a gag reflex like we do, so, Mr. Skunkfeathers? I wouldn't count on not being had by a vulture. In fact, y'all leave an extra trail right to ya, sometimes. (Our house is inside of several highways, and, skunks seem to think that the white stripe on black will scare away cars traveling at 50-70MPH)

And, they are bald.
Comes from sticking their heads in dead bodies all the time.

Is there any reason to write a comment this long?
(call the vultures! scare boneman off, will ya?)
Actually, birds ARE quite fascinating.
And there are so many beautiful birds where you live.
Still, you have chosen vultures to be so prominent on your blog.

Hows about some of those Flamingoes?
Indigo Buntings?
Bumblebee Hummingbirds?
or Ivory Billed Woodpeckers?
(...just a thought....)

boneman said...

oh, I'm sorry.
It's a fine post, and the vultures are probably very happy with you for all your attention.
I bet they even smile when they see you.

Now Dolly?
Probably scared of her since she wanders around with the fire on her back and all, eh?

(I'm trying to imagine what a vulture's smile would look like....)

The Phosgene Kid said...

Vulture hot wings, taste horrible, but there's a lot of meat.

Little Lamb said...

Boneman, I never looked at the vultures being so prominent on this blog, but I guess they are. I guess that's because those are the birds I notice and see the most of. And they're easy to take pictures of and they come out good.

There were a bunch of white birds on the lawn that I tried to take a picture of, but it didn't look good and I scared the birds away somehow. I was inside and they were outside.

Phos, I never ate vulture to my knowledge.

Please be careful, Lamby. They could be predatory lenders masquerading as useful members of the ecosystem.

Little Lamb said...

Puggy, it all makes sense now. They are masquerading around so I think they're friendly bird regardless what what people say about them and warn me against them. Well, they won't fool me. I'm on to them now. Thanks Pug!

boneman said...

wait a minute...
wait a minute....
the way you say (at the end) that "these birds are wild,"....
Lil Lamb, have you been dating these birds while we're not looking?
And exactly what do you mean by 'wild'?

Little Lamb said...

No, Boney, I haven't dated any of them. They roam around acting like wild fearless birds, like they own everything, that's all I meant.

Indigo said...

indigo incarnates

Are the vultures going to circle over the rotting remains of the American Dream?

The Phosgene Kid said...

Wonder how fearless it'd be if I walked up and kicked it???

Little Lamb said...

Indigo, Probably as our country worsens.

Phos, why not give it a try?

boneman said...

think 'long legs' Phos. Those wings they have are huge. You never know when they might be hiding a turkey drumstick.

boneman said...

oooo
