Temp jobs...

My receptionist job was only for one day, and therefore temporary. I found it interesting, though. All I did all day long was answer phones and played a little solitaire, and read magazines. They thought it would be a lot busier. They will consider calling me again.

This one day increased me wanting an office job. I did enjoy myself. It would have been better if the computer wouldn't freeze up the way it did, but it was an interesting day. I even got to go on break and eat lunch. I didn't know if I should go on break because it felt like i was on break all day. I do enjoy sitting and getting paid for it.

We have two secretaries at my job. One is really hard-working, efficient, and friendly. The other is totally useless, lazy, and basically gossips all day. Guess which one gets paid more?

Little Lamb said...

The lazy one?

2 people I work directly with rarely show up on time. They didn't get their hours cut at all. One is my supervisor. It seems to me that the hard workers in my group got their hours cut or got laid off, while the slackers didn't loose anything.

one day!?!

what kind of
a job takes one day?!?

are you returned to your real job that takes more than one day? or have you retired?

Oh... and if you were curious... the lazy, gossipy, useless one is the one that makes a LOT more than the nice, friendly, hard-working one. Such is way of things, unfortunately.

/t. A temporary one. The person who's place I took returns tomorrow.

Indigo, That was my guess.

Yay Little Lamb!!! You survived a day in the office.

And congratulations to your wooly bum.

I'm sure you will find a way to get back into the office. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! And even my toes!

Good luck Lamb. You deserve a good job. I'll be thinking good thoughts and sending them your way.

I had an office job. It was a good office job, because it required me to travel about 40% of the time. My office travelled with me.

Then I got downsized (employment-wise, not size-wise), and now I have another non-office job. Granted, there is an office I use when I need one. It isn't my office, except when the boss ain't there, then it's my office. But I can't hide there: I carry a radio and a pager. Neither of which ever goes off, until I am just sitting down to lunch, or in the middle of three things at once, and a fourth inserts itself.

Retirement sounds wunnerful...I won't live to achieve it ;)

Phos, That office?

Corn Dog, One of these days I'll get that office job. I want one even worse now.

Skunky, I don't make enough to ever retire, so I might as well get a job I enjoy if I have to work the rest of my life.

The Office

yes, that office
you know?

tv series
A mockumentary on a group of typical office workers, where the workday consists of ego clashes, inappropriate behavior, and tedium. Based on the hit BBC series.

from
the book,
"the office"
published around 1970,
i think -- i read it in 1972 -- very funny :)

and that other "office" book, which was published around the same time, about a flock of lambs heading out to california in search of good jobs -- they end up going to work on the manson ranch -- also very funny :)

well, i'm tired of all of this typing work and going to go for a nap now -- just kidding... i'm off to listen to my favorite song, "helter skelter" :)

manson ranch is a nice place for a lamb work ;)

Little Lamb said...

Ruela, I may have worked in an office like that. The person who was my boss that day told me not to rush when I page someone. She said no one was in a hurry. Then she said "Trust me!" So I took it, it was very laid back there.

/t. A book about the office and lambs ending up on the Manson ranch. Hmmmm. I think you're pulling the wool over my eyes again! <3 <3 <3

Ruela, I bet!

The Manson ranch - the Bar T Chainsaw ranch you mean...

Give me their phone number. I'll call up pretending to be some big wig CEO type (or a Philanthropist with deep pockets). I'll demand that they hire the nice* (* I'll lay it on thick) Temp that I talked to yesterday, if they want MY money.

a gig like this should free you up to do lots of bloggin. i thought your job was to produce wool.

carmen racovitza said...

LL, can you say NO to an AMOROSA- BUGATTI ???? can you ???

Little Lamb said...

Pug, Puggy, I didn't work there yesterday.

She, I do produce wool, but need other stuff to do while the wool is growing.

Carmen, if they're lamb skin bags, yes.

Pink said...

Yes Lambie - wool growing, even when it is interrupted by periodic blogging can be a bit - well - boring.

So did you get some further feedback from your contact in HR? Do they know you want a permanent office job?

Maybe you'll have to get a woolcut when you go all 'corporate' on us ;)

PS - thanks for your sweet comment.

The person who needed me Monday said I did a good job, but need to improve on answering the phone. (what I need improvement on is waiting until the beeping stops and then page the person who the call is for) other than that I did fine.

When my contact person shows up again I'll show him my portfolio. He KNOWS I want an office job in the worst way.

You're welcome for the comment.

Sounds like more wool gathering than growing to me!!

Little Lamb said...

Humph! :-)

Pink said...

maybe we can dip you in a vat of pink dye, then watch you grow, then dip you in some brown dye. You could look like Neopolitan ice cream.

Hey. You got a better suggestion?
